Ellaword

Terms of Service

Last updated: 2026-10-02

1. Agreement

These Terms govern your use of Ellaword — the iOS app, this website and the service behind them — provided by Mehmet Alp Güler, the individual who operates Ellaword, based in Sweden ("Ellaword", "we", "us"). By creating an account you agree to these Terms. How we handle personal data is described in our Privacy Policy. You can reach us at [email protected]. Our geographic address and trader details are shown on Ellaword’s page in the App Store.

2. Who can use Ellaword

You must be at least 16 years old. If you are under 18, you need the permission of a parent or guardian to buy a subscription.

3. Your account

Keep your password to yourself; you are responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us at [email protected] if you think someone else has used it. Your username is visible to other learners (on your profile, in search and on leaderboards), so do not use a name you would not want others to see, and do not choose one that impersonates someone or is offensive.

Weekly leagues can include simulated learners alongside real people, so that every league has competitors. Simulated learners are not real people: they are run automatically by our software, and their usernames, avatars, scores and profile activity are generated. They do not appear in username search, and a friend request sent to one will not be accepted.

4. Subscriptions and payment

Some features need a paid subscription ("Premium"). Subscriptions are sold by Apple through the App Store, under Apple's terms:

  • The price and billing period are shown before you buy. Payment is charged to your Apple account when you confirm.
  • The subscription renews automatically unless you turn off auto-renewal at least 24 hours before the current period ends.
  • You manage or cancel it in your Apple account settings; canceling takes effect at the end of the period you have paid for. Deleting your Ellaword account does not cancel it.
  • Refunds are requested from and decided by Apple.

If you are a consumer in the EU/EEA you normally have 14 days to withdraw from a distance contract. For digital content supplied immediately, that right ends once supply has begun with your prior consent and your acknowledgement that you lose it. Because Apple is the seller, that consent and any withdrawal or refund are handled through Apple. Nothing in these Terms limits your statutory rights as a consumer, including your rights if the service is faulty.

5. Acceptable use

Do not:

  • use Ellaword for anything unlawful;
  • disrupt, overload, probe or try to gain unauthorized access to the service, or use automated means to access it;
  • copy, reverse engineer or extract the app, except where the law allows it;
  • bring in content you are not entitled to use, or harass other users.

6. Content you bring in

You can paste, upload, scan or import text (such as subtitles) so Ellaword can build word lists for you. You keep all rights in it. You confirm that you are entitled to use it this way, and you give us a limited license to process it only to provide the service to you — which in practice means keeping the words, their counts and a few example sentences, as described in the Privacy Policy, not the text itself.

What you bring in is private to your account: it is not published or shown to other users. The one exception is not content but vocabulary: a single word our dictionary does not recognize may be added, without any link to you, to the list we use to improve the dictionary.

If you believe something on Ellaword infringes your rights, write to [email protected] with the work concerned, where it appears, and how to reach you. We will review the report, remove or disable the material if the report is justified, and tell the user concerned, who may respond. We may suspend accounts that repeatedly infringe.

7. Our content

The app, website, design and our own content belong to us or our licensors; you may use them only through Ellaword and these Terms. Dictionary data is from Lexin © Institutet för språk och folkminnen, licensed under CC BY 4.0.

8. Third-party services

Ellaword relies on third parties, including Apple for purchases. Their terms also apply to your use of them, and we are not responsible for services we do not control.

9. What Ellaword is, and our liability

Ellaword is a learning tool. We work to keep it available and accurate, but we do not promise that it will always be available or error-free, that the dictionary or word lists are free of mistakes, or that you will reach any particular level.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for data you lose where you could have kept your own copy, or for services provided by third parties. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited — including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for intent or gross negligence, and your mandatory rights as a consumer.

10. Ending the agreement

You can stop using Ellaword and delete your account at any time in the app. We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these Terms, or that harms other users, us or others; where reasonable we will warn you first and tell you why. What happens to your data is described in the Privacy Policy.

11. Changes to these Terms

We may change these Terms, for example when the service or the law changes. We will tell you in the app or by email at least 30 days before a change that is to your disadvantage takes effect. If you do not accept it, you can delete your account before then; continuing to use Ellaword after that date means you accept the new Terms.

12. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by Swedish law, and disputes are decided by Swedish courts. If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory law of the country you live in, and you may also bring proceedings there.

Please contact us first — most problems are solved quickly that way. You can also take a complaint to the Swedish National Board for Consumer Disputes (ARN, arn.se), or to the equivalent body in your country.
